Spain's Pedri To Miss Euro 2024 Following Knee Sprain Against Germany

Spain have announced that Pedri will not participate in the remainder of Euro 2024 due to a 'grade two knee sprain' sustained during Friday's quarter-final against Germany. Pedri was forced off the field after just eight minutes following a heavy tackle by Toni Kroos.

Spain secured a 2-1 victory over Germany after extra time, with Mikel Merino scoring the decisive goal. They are set to face France in the semi-finals in Munich next Tuesday. In a statement on X, it was confirmed: "The medical tests carried out have determined that Pedri González suffers a grade 2 internal lateral sprain in his left knee."

Pedri Out of Euro 2024 with Injury

The statement added that Pedri will stay in Germany until Euro 2024 concludes. The Spanish Football Federation shared: "PARTE MÉDICO | @Pedri. Las pruebas médicas realizadas han determinado que Pedri González sufre un esguince lateral interno de grado 2 en su rodilla izquierda. El jugador canario permanecerá en Alemania hasta el final de la #EURO2024."

Kroos, who retired from football following Germany's defeat, expressed his sympathy for Pedri through an emotional Instagram post. He wrote: "Get better soon Pedri. Obviously, it was not my intention to cause any damage. Wishing you a speedy recovery and all the best. You are a great player."

Pedri's absence is a significant blow for Spain as they prepare for their semi-final clash against France. His performance has been crucial throughout the tournament, and his injury leaves a gap in Spain's midfield.

The Spanish team will need to adjust their strategy without one of their key players. Coach Luis Enrique will likely look to other squad members to step up in Pedri's absence.

Upcoming Semi-Final Against France

Spain's upcoming match against France promises to be challenging. With both teams aiming for a spot in the final, Spain must adapt quickly to cope without Pedri.

The semi-final will take place next Tuesday in Munich, where Spain hopes to continue their strong performance despite this setback.

Pedri's injury has undoubtedly impacted the team's dynamics, but Spain remains focused on their goal of winning Euro 2024.

The team and fans alike are hopeful for Pedri’s swift recovery and look forward to his return to the pitch soon.
