Nathan Collins Supports FAI In Choosing New Republic Of Ireland Manager

Nathan Collins, the 22-year-old Brentford defender, has expressed his confidence in the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) as they continue their search for a new manager following Stephen Kenny's departure in November last year. The FAI is expected to announce a new appointment next month, with former Ireland international John O'Shea currently serving as interim manager for upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland. Despite England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley withdrawing from consideration, Collins remains optimistic about the FAI's decision-making process.

During a press conference, Collins emphasized his trust in the FAI's ability to select the right candidate for the team. "You have to trust them. If I didn't, then I wouldn't be here," he stated, highlighting his belief in the association's judgment. Marc Canham, the FAI's director of football, has been tight-lipped about potential candidates due to contractual obligations but has praised O'Shea's contributions to both the under-21 and senior teams.

Collins Backs FAI for Manager Pick

O'Shea, 42, has garnered respect within the squad for his coaching prowess and support. Collins praised O'Shea's impact, noting his positive experiences working with him and expressing excitement for the team's future under new leadership. "It's always going to be a bit different when a new manager comes in. It's exciting, I think," Collins remarked, pointing out the fresh energy within the group.

Jim Crawford, who worked with O'Shea during his time with the under-21s, lauded O'Shea's comprehensive understanding of football and his ability to manage emotions effectively. Crawford highlighted O'Shea's clear vision of the game and his effective communication skills as key attributes that will serve him well in a head coaching role. "He is extremely likeable and what underpins all that is the career he had as a player," Crawford added, acknowledging O'Shea's extensive experience and success with Ireland and Manchester United.

The search for Kenny's successor comes at a crucial time for the Republic of Ireland team, with expectations high for a strong leadership figure to guide them forward. As speculation continues over who will take on the role permanently, the FAI's decision will undoubtedly be pivotal in shaping the team's trajectory in international football.
