Nagelsmann Unveils Germany's Provisional Euro 2024 Squad With Surprises
Julian Nagelsmann has announced a 27-man provisional squad for Germany ahead of Euro 2024. The most unexpected inclusion is Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, who has received his first senior call-up. Notably absent from the squad are Mats Hummels and Leon Goretzka, despite their significant contributions to Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, respectively.
Other notable omissions include Julian Brandt, Niklas Sule, and Karim Adeyemi. Serge Gnabry and Timo Werner are also missing due to injuries. Nagelsmann, who has won just one of his first four games in charge, made tactical changes in March that resulted in consecutive victories.

Nico Schlotterbeck returns to the national squad for the first time since September. Schlotterbeck boasts a 71 per cent tackle success rate in the Bundesliga, the highest in Europe's top five leagues this season for players with at least 70 tackles. Aleksandar Pavlovic also makes a return after missing the March friendlies due to injury. Bayern Munich's win ratio stands at 83.3 per cent with Pavlovic in the team, dropping to 53.3 per cent without him.
Schlotterbeck, Niclas Fullkrug, Toni Kroos, and Antonio Rudiger will join the squad late due to their involvement in the Champions League final. The final 26-man squad must be submitted by June 7, meaning one player will be dropped before the tournament begins.
As hosts, Germany will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland on June 14. The squad includes a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, aiming to make a strong impression on home soil.
