Jaime Lozano Dismissed By Mexico After Copa America Exit
Mexico have parted ways with head coach Jaime Lozano after a disappointing Copa America performance. The team managed only one win and scored just once, finishing third in Group B. Lozano, who had been in charge for nearly a year, declined a demotion to stay under a new head coach, according to the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).
The FMF has initiated an evaluation process to identify mistakes and successes from the Copa America campaign. This analysis aims to pinpoint areas for improvement. On Tuesday, the FMF stated that they are committed to enhancing their strategies and processes moving forward.

Lozano was offered a contract extending until 2030. During the period from 2024 to 2026, he was expected to work alongside a more experienced manager in preparation for the World Cup. However, Lozano has decided not to continue in his role.
"Llegaste en un momento difícil y supiste afrontar los retos trayendo unidad y profesionalismo. Hoy termina tu ciclo como Director Técnico de la Selección Nacional Mayor y reconocemos tu entrega y compromiso. Gracias, Jimmy!" tweeted Selección Nacional (@miseleccionmx) on July 17, 2024.
The FMF acknowledged Lozano's decision with respect and gratitude. "Lozano has informed us that he does not wish to continue. We respect his decision; we recognise his great professionalism, capacity and dedication," they said.
Potential Replacement
Javier Aguirre is reportedly set to replace Lozano as head coach. Aguirre previously led Mexico during the 2002 and 2010 World Cups.
Under Lozano's leadership, Mexico won the 2023 Gold Cup title and reached the Concacaf Nations League final earlier this year, where they lost to the USA.
The FMF is now focused on finding a suitable replacement who can lead the team effectively in future tournaments.
This transition marks a significant change for Mexican football as they aim to build on past achievements while addressing recent shortcomings.
