Lionel Messi To Lead Argentina In Copa America Defense; Paulo Dybala Left Out
Argentina are preparing to defend their Copa America title as Lionel Scaloni announces a 29-man provisional squad for the tournament. Lionel Messi will once again captain the team, with Scaloni also selecting experienced players Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi. Enzo Fernandez is included despite missing the end of Chelsea's Premier League season due to groin surgery in April.
Lisandro Martinez is also recalled, having recently returned from injury. A notable omission from the squad is Roma's Paulo Dybala, who has scored 16 goals across all competitions this season and earned three player of the month awards. Despite his impressive season, Dybala could not secure a spot in the squad after being limited to just two substitute appearances for Argentina in 2023.

Scaloni will need to reduce his squad to 26 players by June 12, ahead of their Copa America opener against Canada on June 20. Before the tournament, Argentina will play friendly matches against Ecuador and Guatemala.
