Kylian Mbappe Eyes Euro 2024 Victory To Seal International Treble With France

Kylian Mbappe aims to overcome his World Cup disappointment as he seeks his final international accolade at Euro 2024. The forward, who is set to join Real Madrid, scored a hat-trick in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. However, Argentina triumphed on penalties in Saudi Arabia. The European Championship in Germany is now on the horizon, with Didier Deschamps' France and Gareth Southgate's England as favourites.

Euros success is the only major title missing from Mbappe's impressive career. He won the World Cup in 2018 and the Nations League but hopes to complete his collection this time. "I want to win the Euros. I have to be honest. I won the World Cup. I won the Nations League. That's the only one that missed me with the national team after I did everything with the national team," Mbappe told CNN Sport.

Mbappe Targets Euro 2024 Win

Mbappe added, "My first competition as captain, so it's really important for me and it's always important for the country and we want them to be proud of us. [It's] another opportunity to write the history of my country."

Mbappe had a disappointing tournament at Euro 2020, failing to score from chances amounting to 1.7 xG in four games and missing a crucial penalty as France lost to Switzerland in a last-16 shoot-out. However, he enters this tournament on the back of a 44-goal season with PSG and with his future decided, making him a formidable force.

France will begin their group-stage campaign against Austria on Monday before facing the Netherlands and Austria again in a challenging pool. Mbappe believes Les Bleus can learn from their last World Cup experience as they pursue European glory.

"I think we have to move forward," Mbappe said. "Of course, we were hurt, to see that you're close to something... Close to the back-to-back. Something historic. Everybody loved the game except for us. We didn't like that, but it's part of the game."

He continued, "Now, when I watch the video of the game, I watch with a smile because it's part of the history and we know what we have to do if we go again in the final. We have to play all the game and have no reaction."
