Martinez Plans Squad Rotation For Portugal's Final Group F Game Against Georgia
Roberto Martinez has announced plans to rotate his Portugal squad for their final Group F match against Georgia, with qualification for the Euro 2024 knockout stages already secured. The 2016 champions confirmed their place in the last 16 with a game to spare after a 3-0 victory over Turkiye on Saturday.
Goals from Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes, along with an own goal by Samet Akaydin, propelled Portugal to an unassailable six points from their first two matches, securing top spot in Group F. Martinez's team has now won more group-stage games than in the 2016 and 2020 editions combined, where they had one win, four draws, and one defeat.

The Spanish head coach expressed his satisfaction with the team's progress, noting their comeback win against Czechia in their opener. He revealed plans to give other players opportunities when they face Georgia on Wednesday.
"Securing first place is good because there are a lot of players in the dressing room who deserve to play, and we need to give them opportunities to show what they've got and create a competitive environment," Martinez said. "I was very happy with the attitude and them showing that we're growing game by game."
Martinez highlighted the importance of tactical flexibility, having switched from three centre-halves against Czechia to a back four against Turkiye. He believes this adaptability will benefit Portugal in the knockout stages.
"It's important to balance our abundance of individual talent and the best way to do it is to be tactically flexible," he added. "To have that flexibility in a national team is difficult, so I think it's great that we have players talented enough to play different roles according to the situation and the rival."
Portugal's next match against Georgia will take place on Wednesday, providing an opportunity for less-utilised players to make their mark ahead of the knockout rounds.
