Marta Joins Brazil's Olympics Squad For Final Appearance In Paris
Marta will participate in her sixth Olympics after being named in Brazil's squad for the Paris Games by coach Arthur Elias. Elias praised her as the greatest athlete of all time. The 38-year-old, who is Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 118 goals, announced in April that she would retire from international duty at the end of the year.
In Tokyo, Marta made history by becoming the first player, male or female, to score at five consecutive Olympic Games. She was also part of the Brazilian team that won silver medals in 2004 and 2008. This will be her final tournament with her country.

Elias expressed his enthusiasm about including Marta, a six-time FIFA World Player of the Year, who has scored four times for Orlando Pride in the NWSL this season. "She brings a lot to the table; she's the greatest athlete of all time," he said. "She's playing well; she deserved to be on this list."
Brazil will start their campaign against Nigeria on July 25. They will also face Japan and 2023 World Cup winners Spain in Group C. Elias acknowledged the challenge of finding a way to maximise Marta's game but emphasised that winning requires teamwork.
"Marta's performance and behaviour, both with and without the ball, make all athletes see her as an example," Elias added. "I have the challenge of finding a way of playing to maximise her game. But she knows that you can only win with everyone."
Marta has already left an indelible mark on Olympic history and continues to inspire many with her dedication and skill. Her inclusion in Brazil's squad for Paris is a testament to her enduring talent and influence in football.
