Manchester United Secures Dutch Striker Joshua Zirkzee For £35 Million

Manchester United have secured the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £35 million (€42.5 million). The Dutch international, who played a key role in the Netherlands' run to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, has agreed to a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with an option for an additional year.

Zirkzee is United's first significant acquisition of the transfer window as Erik ten Hag aims to improve on last season's eighth-place Premier League finish. The 23-year-old netted 11 goals in Serie A last season, helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

United Signs Zirkzee in £35M Deal

Zirkzee expressed his enthusiasm about joining Manchester United. "Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club, I know how exciting the future is going to be here and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United," he said. "I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I'm ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies."

United's sporting director Dan Ashworth praised Zirkzee's signing, highlighting his impressive performance last season. "Securing a forward to enhance our already strong group of attacking players was a key aim for this summer," Ashworth stated. "We are delighted that we've managed to sign a player of Joshua's calibre this early in the transfer window."

Ashworth believes Zirkzee will significantly benefit Manchester United. "Joshua is an outstanding talent who is ready to make an impact for Manchester United," he added. "His ability and desire to grow into a world-class player means that he will be a great addition to the squad that we are building for the exciting season ahead and beyond."

Meanwhile, United are also eyeing Zirkzee's Netherlands teammate Matthijs de Ligt, with reports suggesting that the defender is eager to leave Bayern Munich. Additionally, Everton have turned down two offers from United for centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

Zirkzee is set to take a short break after his national team duties but will return ready to contribute immediately. "It is a privilege to join such an iconic club," he said. "I have to take a short break now after being with the national team, but I'll be coming back ready to make an impact straight away."

The addition of Zirkzee marks a significant step in Manchester United's efforts to rebuild and strengthen their squad under Erik ten Hag's leadership.
