Man City One Game Away From Making Premier League History, Says Rodri

Manchester City are on the brink of making Premier League history, according to midfielder Rodri. City secured a 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Tuesday, moving closer to a potential fourth consecutive Premier League title. Erling Haaland scored twice, including a penalty in stoppage time, following several crucial saves by stand-in goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Ortega replaced the injured Ederson just after the hour mark and made key saves to deny Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min. With one game remaining, City are two points ahead of Arsenal. Rodri emphasised the importance of maintaining focus for their final match against West Ham on Sunday.

Man City Near Premier League History

"It's unbelievable. For us, it gives us the chance to fight again in the last game," Rodri told Sky Sports. "We know it's one more game, but you saw the character of the team. It wasn't our best performance, but we came here to win—that's what we do."

Rodri praised the contributions of his teammates, particularly Ortega and Jeremy Doku. "Stefan saved us; Jeremy was unbelievable; every player that came in was exceptional," he added.

Erling Haaland has now scored 63 goals in 65 Premier League appearances, surpassing Andrew Cole's record of 55 goals in his first two seasons. Haaland's performance has been pivotal for City this season.

"We have the best striker in the world, and today he made the difference," Rodri said. "Stefan was simply incredible. We were 1-0 up, and he made three outstanding saves. I have no words."

Rodri drew parallels with their experience against Aston Villa in 2022, highlighting the team's determination to make history again. "We know it's not done. We know it's going to be tough, but if we do it, we can change history," he stated.

Kyle Walker echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of taking each game as it comes. "We know it's not done, but we've taken it down to the last game, in front of our fans," Walker said.

Unbeaten Streak

City are unbeaten in 22 consecutive Premier League games (W18 D4), including all 18 matches in 2024 (W15 D3). However, history shows that the last two teams to start a calendar year unbeaten for as long did not win the title (Liverpool in 2022 and Chelsea in 2008).

Pep Guardiola's team will head into the final day of the season at the top of the Premier League table for the sixth time in seven seasons. They have gone on to win the title each time they have been in this position previously.

As City prepare for their final match against West Ham, they aim to defy recent trends and secure their place in Premier League history once again.
