Liverpool Awaits Curtis Jones' Injury Verdict After Pre-Season Setback

Arne Slot has revealed that Liverpool are awaiting updates on Curtis Jones' injury after the midfielder was substituted during their 1-0 win against Real Betis. This match marked Slot's first victory since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, with Dominik Szoboszlai netting the only goal in Pittsburgh.

The game was the opening fixture of Liverpool's pre-season tour in the United States. However, Jones' participation in future matches is uncertain after he left the field around the 30-minute mark. Slot explained that removing Jones was a precautionary measure.

Jones' Injury Concern for Liverpool

"I think it's too early to tell [how bad it is]," Slot mentioned during his post-match press conference. "Maybe he could have played on, but I think maybe you could see he was not at 100%. In a friendly game, with so many days coming up in our tour, it was best to take him off."

Slot expressed hope for a swift recovery for Jones, aiming to see him back in action soon. He noted that it was unfortunate for Jones to leave early, especially after two strong weeks of training.

Trey Nyoni replaced Jones and made a significant impact. Slot praised the 17-year-old's performance, stating, "The good thing about that was that we brought someone [on] that impressed me in the 45 minutes to an hour he played afterwards."

Nyoni contributed to Szoboszlai's goal by making a quick turn and delivering a precise pass. He also played a role in creating a major chance in the second half.

Liverpool's Defensive Strength

Slot highlighted Liverpool's solid defensive display, noting they conceded only one significant chance late in the game. "We controlled the game really well and, in between, we had a few good attacks where we created a few good chances and scored a good goal," he said.

Despite some areas needing improvement, Slot found several positives from the match. He emphasized being cautious with Nyoni due to his developing physique but acknowledged his potential.

Liverpool fans showed their support throughout the match, as evidenced by their engagement on social media platforms like Twitter.

The Reds will continue their pre-season tour with hopes of seeing Jones return to full fitness soon. The team aims to build on this positive start under Slot’s leadership.
