Manchester City's Liam Delap Transfers To Ipswich Town In Multi-Million Deal

Manchester City forward Liam Delap has joined Ipswich Town in a deal reportedly worth up to £20 million. This marks Ipswich's fourth first-team signing, following Jacob Greaves' transfer from Hull City. Delap and Greaves were teammates at Hull last season, where Delap scored eight goals in 32 Championship appearances.

The initial fee for the 21-year-old striker is said to be £15 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons. Manchester City also retains a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer involving Delap. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna expressed his excitement about the new signing.

Delap's Ipswich Move Confirmed

"We are delighted to bring Liam to the club," McKenna stated on Ipswich's official website. "We think he is a player with the qualities to help the team this season but also to be an important player for the club for many years to come."

Delap had less successful loan spells at Stoke City and Preston North End before finding form under Liam Rosenior at Hull during the 2023-24 season. Despite a knee injury in January, he returned to help Hull narrowly miss out on play-off positions.

Southampton showed interest in the five-cap England Under-21 international, but Delap chose to join Ipswich, following Greaves. Ipswich has also signed Omari Hutchinson and Ben Johnson recently.

Player's Perspective

Delap shared his enthusiasm about joining Ipswich: "I have heard so many good things about the feeling around the club, and how the players and staff work. That's exactly why I'm excited to be here."

"The manager here likes to play exciting football. It's quick and intense and I am looking forward to that. I want to bring goals and assists and I'll work as hard as I can to help the team," Delap added.

McKenna praised Delap's physical and technical attributes, noting his hunger to learn and improve. "He has gained good first-team experience from a young age and we feel he has the potential for development here," McKenna said.

This significant signing demonstrates Ipswich Town's ambition as they prepare for the upcoming season with high hopes for success on the pitch.
