Leeds United Announces Archie Gray's Transfer To Tottenham For £40M
Archie Gray has transferred to Tottenham from Leeds United in a deal valued at up to £40 million. The 18-year-old midfielder, who is the great-nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray, had a standout season at Elland Road last year. He played 47 matches in the Championship for Daniel Farke's team during the 2023-24 season.
Gray's impressive performances helped Leeds reach the play-off final, where they were defeated by Southampton. Despite their efforts, Leeds failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League. This failure activated a clause in Gray's contract, allowing other clubs to make offers for him.

Initially, Gray seemed set to join Brentford after undergoing a medical with them over the weekend. However, Leeds rejected Brentford's £35 million offer due to disagreements over the payment structure. This opened the door for Tottenham to step in and secure Gray's signature.
Leeds United expressed their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), stating they were "heartbroken to see one of our own depart." Despite this setback, Leeds wished Gray well as he embarks on his new journey with Tottenham.
In a separate deal, Joe Rodon has moved from Tottenham to Leeds. The Wales defender spent last season on loan at Elland Road and will now join Leeds permanently.
Gray's departure marks a significant moment for both clubs involved. While Tottenham gains a promising young talent, Leeds loses a player who had become an integral part of their squad.
