Leeds United's Unwavering Belief Sets Stage For Wembley Showdown
Leeds United's Ethan Ampadu expressed confidence in his team's resilience despite a challenging end to their Championship campaign. The team is now set for a crucial play-off final at Wembley on May 26, where they will face either Southampton or West Brom. This follows their commanding 4-0 victory over Norwich City at Elland Road on Thursday.
Leeds had a difficult finish to the season, suffering a 4-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers and another loss at home to Southampton. These setbacks allowed Ipswich Town to secure automatic promotion behind Leicester City. However, Ampadu emphasized that the team never lost faith in their abilities, even after drawing 0-0 with Norwich in the first leg.

"Towards the end of the season, there was a lot of talk about how we were playing, how we weren't on the front foot, how we weren't aggressive or clinical," Ampadu told Sky Sports. "But we always had our belief that on our day, when we are firing, we can be hard for anyone to play against."
Ampadu highlighted the importance of the team's offensive players in making the defenders' jobs easier. "When the front four, five, six play like that, they make the job of us defenders a lot easier," he said. He acknowledged that the upcoming final would be challenging but stressed that their recent performance could provide momentum and confidence.
Georginio Rutter played a pivotal role in the victory by scoring one goal and assisting another. He emphasized the need for Leeds to maintain their high level of performance at Wembley. "It's incredible. Today we go to Wembley," Rutter said. "We played a good game. I'm happy, everybody is happy. One more game and we will see."
Rutter praised the team's maturity and overall performance in securing a clean sheet with a 4-0 scoreline. "Today, we were mature. It's a very good performance from the team," he added. He expressed his commitment to helping the team succeed in the final, stating, "If we play like this [at the final], we have a good chance but we have to play like this."
The fans' support was also acknowledged by Ampadu, who described them as "second to none." He noted that their backing was crucial as Leeds prepares for what he termed "the big one." The team's focus now shifts to ensuring they are fully prepared for the decisive match at Wembley.
