Laurent Blanc To Lead Al-Ittihad, Collaborates With Benzema And Kante
Laurent Blanc aims to establish a strong French connection at Al-Ittihad with Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante. The Saudi Pro League champions announced Blanc's appointment on Saturday, with the 58-year-old signing a two-year contract, including an option for an additional year.
Blanc was previously dismissed by Lyon after less than a year, following three losses in four opening Ligue 1 matches in September 2023. The former centre-back has also managed Paris Saint-Germain.

Al-Ittihad secured the Saudi Pro League title last season, edging out Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr. This victory marked their first league win in 15 years.
Houssem Aouar is expected to be Blanc's first signing at Al-Ittihad. Aouar impressed at Lyon before moving to Roma, who are reportedly ready to part ways after just one season for a deal worth €12 million plus add-ons.
Aouar played for France before switching allegiance to Algeria. His move is said to be influenced by Blanc's appointment and the existing French connections within the squad.
French Influence in the Squad
Blanc will join fellow Frenchmen Benzema and Kante at Al-Ittihad. Additionally, former Liverpool midfielder and Brazil international Fabinho is part of the squad.
The club hopes that Blanc's experience and connections will help them build on their recent success and maintain their competitive edge in the league.

The addition of players like Aouar could further strengthen Al-Ittihad’s midfield options. The club is looking forward to seeing how these new dynamics will play out under Blanc’s leadership.
Blanc’s arrival brings hope for continued success and possibly more titles for Al-Ittihad in the coming seasons.
