La Liga Boss Voices Support For Mason Greenwood’s Future In Spain

The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has openly expressed his desire for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood to continue his career in Spain following his loan spell at Getafe. Despite Greenwood's past legal challenges, including charges of attempted rape and assault which were later dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February last year, Tebas has shown support for the player's future in Spanish football.

During a media briefing at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Tebas highlighted Greenwood's performance at Getafe, stating, "He's doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and he continues to stay in Spanish football because that's always good for us." He further emphasized that Greenwood should not be judged by his past, noting that the player was acquitted in the UK and thus should not face additional scrutiny in Spain.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently took over control of football operations at Old Trafford through his company Ineos, mentioned that a decision regarding Greenwood's future with the club would be made this summer. Despite previous reports suggesting United might retain Greenwood following an internal investigation, Ratcliffe acknowledged the need for a careful decision-making process. "It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made," Ratcliffe stated during a media briefing.

Ratcliffe also indicated that Greenwood's situation would be considered anew, alongside other players currently on loan from Manchester United. "Yeah we will. Absolutely. We will make a decision, and we will justify it one way or the other," he added, highlighting the importance of addressing each player's future with the club thoughtfully.

The support from La Liga's president for Greenwood to remain in Spain underscores the league's interest in nurturing talent regardless of their backgrounds, provided they have been cleared of any legal wrongdoing.
