Kylian Mbappe Poised For Comeback In Euro 2024 Clash Against Poland

France manager Didier Deschamps has indicated that Kylian Mbappe is eager to return, suggesting the forward might feature in their final Euro 2024 group match against Poland. Mbappe, who broke his nose in a collision with Kevin Danso during their win over Austria, missed the goalless draw with the Netherlands last Friday. Now fitted with a protective mask, he has resumed full training and scored twice in a closed-door friendly on Saturday.

France needs at least a draw against Poland to secure a place in the knockout stages. Poland has already been eliminated from Euro 2024. Deschamps acknowledges that Mbappe's return could be crucial, especially after their struggle to break down the Dutch defence. However, he admits that adapting to the mask might be challenging for Mbappe.

Mbappe's Imminent Return at Euro 2024

Deschamps commented on Mbappe's condition: "It's better every day. He was in our training sessions. The bruise has gone down a lot. He's getting used to the mask. He wants to play, he's raring to go. He wanted to play against the Netherlands, and he wants to play tomorrow."

While Mbappe is keen to get back on the field, Deschamps noted some difficulties associated with wearing the mask. "He has no problems with breathing but the way he sees, yes," Deschamps said. "For those who play with a mask, it's not a constraint, but it does limit your vision. He wears it because he needs to protect his face in certain incidents that could occur."

N'Golo Kante has been France's standout player so far, earning Player of the Match honours in both games after returning from a two-year absence. Kante is excited about teaming up with Mbappe again as France aims to improve their goal-scoring record.

Kante praised Mbappe's abilities: "We all know his qualities as a finisher," Kante said. "One of the reassuring facts is that we had a lot of chances without him. With him, we can be more effective."

Kante's Optimism

Kante believes that having Mbappe back will significantly boost France's attacking prowess. "With Kylian back, I think that can help us to score and win," Kante added. "Clearly, it's a big plus to have Kylian back."

Deschamps also mentioned how thin they made the mask for comfort: "It's like wearing those 3D glasses. We have as thin a mask as possible." Despite some hindrance, Deschamps remains optimistic about Mbappe adapting quickly.

Kante shared his observations from training: "He was great, decisive, dangerous; he played really well in the training session," Kante said. "To be honest, I forgot that he was wearing a mask."

France looks forward to seeing if this positive training performance will translate into success on the pitch against Poland tomorrow.
