Kevin De Bruyne Pledges Continued Commitment To Belgium's International Team
Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed he is not ready to retire from international football after another standout performance for Belgium in their victory over Romania. The Manchester City midfielder scored the Red Devils' second goal in Cologne, securing their first win at Euro 2024 following a loss to Slovakia in their Group E opener.
De Bruyne registered five shots against Romania, his highest in a European Championship match since 2016 against Hungary, where he had seven. No player on the pitch had more shots, shots on target (three), made more tackles (four), or won more fouls (four) than the Belgium captain.

The 32-year-old has been a key figure in Belgium's 'golden generation', which has underperformed on the international stage. Despite this, De Bruyne continues to excel during significant moments.

"When I leave the team it will be up to them to be left to their own devices," said De Bruyne. After some confusion among media, he clarified, "I was more thinking about the fact that there are lots of young lads coming in. I've been playing for this team for the past 10 years now and I've got knowledge to share with them but I haven't really thought about whether it's the end of the road for me here."
De Bruyne added, "I don't really like thinking about when I'm going to be retiring or my future." His comments suggest a focus on mentoring younger players while continuing his contributions on the field.
Consistent Performance
Since the 2014 World Cup, De Bruyne has been involved in more Euros and World Cup goals for Belgium than any other player, tied with Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard at 13 goals (four goals and nine assists). This statistic underscores his enduring quality and importance to the national team.
As Belgium navigates Euro 2024, De Bruyne's experience and leadership will be crucial. His recent performance against Romania highlights his ongoing value and commitment to the team.
