Alvarez To Decide Manchester City Future Following Olympics

Julian Alvarez, a key player for Manchester City, will decide his future only after Argentina's Olympics campaign concludes. Alvarez has been a valuable asset to Pep Guardiola's team over the past two seasons. Despite Erling Haaland being the primary striker, Alvarez has often filled in as an attacking midfielder, especially covering for Kevin De Bruyne.

Alvarez, 24, is currently representing Argentina at the Paris Olympics following his contribution to their Copa America victory earlier this summer. Atletico Madrid has shown interest in him, but he has yet to make a decision about leaving City. "There is a lot of talk," said Alvarez before Argentina's match against Ukraine. "I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. At Manchester City I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes. But we will see after the Games."

Alvarez's Post-Olympics Man City Decision

Last season, Alvarez appeared in 54 matches across all competitions for City, more than any other player on the team. However, 15 of those appearances were as a substitute. He managed to score 19 goals, surpassing his expected goals (xG) of 17.5 and also provided 13 assists. Only Kevin De Bruyne had more assists with 17, while Phil Foden created more chances (107) compared to Alvarez's 98.

Guardiola is keen on retaining Alvarez but acknowledges the challenge of keeping all players satisfied with their playing time. "I don't think about replacing [him]," Guardiola stated. "I know he wants to play in important moments, but the other players [want that] too. We have 18 or 19 players who want to play in the important games."

Alvarez expressed mixed feelings about his role at City and hinted at taking some time off before making any decisions post-Olympics. "Maybe it's annoying to be out in big games; players always want to help on the pitch," he said. "But my season was good, so I'm very happy." He plans to take a few days off after the Games before deciding on his future.

Pep Guardiola understands Alvarez's need for contemplation and supports his decision-making process. "I read he has to think about it, so OK, think about it and after that he will inform us what he wants to do," Guardiola commented.

The uncertainty surrounding Alvarez’s future adds an element of suspense for both Manchester City fans and potential suitors like Atletico Madrid. His performance at the Olympics could further influence his decision and impact his career trajectory.

The upcoming weeks will be crucial for Julian Alvarez as he balances national duties with personal career choices. Fans and analysts alike are keenly watching how this situation unfolds.
