France 'Surprised' By Griezmann's Euro 2024 Struggles, Admits Rabiot
France midfielder Adrien Rabiot has expressed surprise at Antoine Griezmann's struggles during Euro 2024. France is set to face Spain in a crucial semi-final match in Munich on Tuesday, aiming for their fourth major tournament final under Didier Deschamps.
Despite being one of France's key players in their journey to the 2022 World Cup final, Griezmann has found it difficult to score in this tournament. He has failed to convert any of his 11 shots, which had an expected goals (xG) value of 1.94. This includes missing all three big chances defined by Opta.

Rabiot commented on Griezmann's performance: "We are all surprised when we know Antoine's qualities and what he did at the World Cup, where he was undoubtedly one of the best players," Rabiot said on Monday. "I don't know how to explain it, maybe he's not as well physically."
Les Bleus have faced significant criticism for their lack of goals at Euro 2024. They have only scored three times from chances worth 8.07 xG. Notably, these goals include two own goals and a penalty by Kylian Mbappe. France is the only team in European Championship history to attempt over 50 non-penalty shots in a single edition without scoring any (86).
Rabiot acknowledged that more is expected from Griezmann: "We expect a lot more from Antoine because he is capable of doing much more." He added that while the team can win without Griezmann performing at his best, it would be easier if he were in top form.
Mbappe's Adjustments
Kylian Mbappe has also struggled, scoring just once from 20 shots with an xG of 2.74. He recently suggested that Paul Pogba's absence from midfield has forced him to alter his playing style.
Rabiot addressed these comments, stating: "Why would I feel targeted? Paul has these characteristics; you have to adapt. As a midfielder, we also adapt to different strikers. It's a question of adaptation."
The French team hopes to overcome these challenges and secure a spot in the final despite their current goal-scoring issues and player adjustments.
