France Edges Past Guinea To Claim Spot In Olympic Quarter-Finals
Kiliann Sildillia's second-half goal secured France's place in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games, maintaining their perfect start. The right-back's header ensured a 1-0 victory over Guinea, despite some early scares.
In the first half, France faced significant pressure from Guinea. Amadou Diawara forced a superb fingertip save from Guillaume Restes just minutes into the match. Jean-Philippe Mateta missed several chances to put France ahead, including a backheel that went wide and a header that missed the target.

Guinea had two goals disallowed before half-time. Naby Keita found the bottom corner from an offside position, and Abdoulaye Toure's goal was ruled out after meeting a free-kick. These tight offside calls kept the score level at the break.
France improved significantly in the second half. Loic Bade struck the post from a tight angle, signalling their intent. Eventually, Sildillia made the difference by heading in Michael Olise's cross, which Soumaila Sylla couldn't stop.
Olise was instrumental throughout the game, creating six chances—more than any other player on the pitch. His assist for Sildillia's goal highlighted his influence on the match.
Group Standings
With this win, France tops Group A with six points from two matches. Guinea remains at the bottom of the group, having lost both of their games so far.
This victory marks France's first appearance in the Olympic quarter-finals since 1996. They are now looking to end a 40-year wait for a gold medal in this event.
