Phil Foden Opens Up About Guardiola's Role In His Career At Manchester City

Phil Foden aims to continue enjoying his time under Pep Guardiola's leadership at Manchester City, despite the uncertainty surrounding the manager's future. Foden, who was named Premier League Player of the Year, played a pivotal role in City's record-breaking fourth consecutive top-flight title, scoring two crucial goals in their final match against West Ham.

Guardiola, whose contract expires at the end of next season, has hinted at a possible departure from Etihad Stadium. Foden, who has flourished since making his debut under Guardiola in the 2017-18 season, remains focused on progressing with the 53-year-old manager.

Foden Praises Guardiola's Impact

"I've not known any other thing apart from him," Foden told BBC Sport. "So, it'll be strange when he does go. I don't want to think too much about it. I want to enjoy the things we're doing now with him."

Foden also shared valuable advice he received from Guardiola this season: "The best advice he gave me this season was don't try and be Phil Foden in every action, and I feel like that advice really went a long way."

Reflecting on his journey, Foden acknowledged the presence of more experienced players ahead of him and believed in the process set by Guardiola. "When I wasn't playing, I knew there were better players in front of me. And I knew the more I grew up and the longer time that went, there'd be an opportunity for me," he added.

Foden spoke ahead of the FA Cup final where Manchester City will face rivals Manchester United at Wembley for the second consecutive year. The Citizens aim to become the first English side to win both the Premier League and FA Cup in successive seasons.

"Last year, United didn't make it easy for us," Foden said. "When it's a derby, on your day, anyone can win, so it's something we have to look forward to and be at our best if we're going to win."

The upcoming match promises to be a thrilling encounter as both teams vie for supremacy in one of football's most storied rivalries.
