Florian Wirtz Concentrates On Euro 2024 Amidst Bayern Munich Rumours

Florian Wirtz has stated that now is not the time to discuss his future with Bayer Leverkusen, as he focuses on leading Germany's campaign for Euro 2024 on home soil. Wirtz has become one of the most highly regarded attacking midfielders in world football, playing a key role for Xabi Alonso's team as they went unbeaten to win the Bundesliga in the 2023-24 season.

Wirtz was named Bundesliga Player of the Year after scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists. He also helped Die Werkself secure the DFB-Pokal, achieving a domestic double. Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Manchester United have shown interest in Wirtz, while German media reports suggest he is Bayern Munich's top long-term target.

Wirtz Eyes Euro 2024, Ignores Transfer Talk

Despite the speculation, Wirtz is under contract at the BayArena until 2027 and is not considering his club future while Julian Nagelsmann's side prepares for their Euros opener against Scotland next week. "Everyone knows my contract," Wirtz told Sky Sports in Germany. "It's not the moment to talk about it now. I'm definitely having a very good time at Leverkusen; I feel good. In my head, it's now 100 per cent about the European Championship. I don't care about anything else right now."

Bayer Leverkusen is only the fifth different club to win the Double since the Bundesliga was founded, following FC Bayern (13 times), 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen, and Borussia Dortmund.

Wirtz has earned 17 senior caps for Germany, scoring his first international goal in a friendly win over France in March. Euro 2024 will be the fourth major international tournament hosted solely by Germany (or West Germany prior to unification). They reached at least the semi-finals in the previous three instances: winning against Johan Cruyff's Netherlands in the 1974 World Cup final and reaching the last four at Euro 1988 and the 2006 World Cup.

However, Germany has struggled in recent major tournaments, failing to win a knockout game since Euro 2016. They faced group-stage exits at both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and were eliminated by England in the last 16 at Euro 2020.

As Wirtz prepares for Euro 2024, his focus remains solely on helping Germany succeed on home soil. His future with Bayer Leverkusen will be addressed after the tournament concludes.
