Bruno Fernandes Calls For Strong Finish To Manchester United's Season

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes emphasised the importance of finishing the season strongly following their 3-2 victory over Newcastle United. The match saw young talents Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Hojlund score, narrowing the gap to Newcastle in the Premier League standings. Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall scored for Newcastle, with Hall's stoppage-time goal creating a tense finish.

United avoided a third consecutive defeat and what would have been a record-breaking 10th home loss of the season. Fernandes stressed the need for a positive end to the season. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, "Obviously the job isn't finished yet. We still have one game in the Premier League, then the biggest game of the season, the FA Cup final."

Man Utd's Strong Season Finish Aim

Fernandes acknowledged the challenging season reflected in the league table and praised the fans for their unwavering support. "The fans have been amazing and behind us all season. We all appreciate what they have been doing for us," he noted. "We want to do better and do differently. They [fans] have been amazing for us, and we had to do something."

He continued, "We have been trying, but results don't show that. We have been working hard and everyone has been giving their best. It is not enough, and we have to do more." Fernandes also dismissed the notion of a "captain's performance," stating it was a team effort.

Despite returning to winning ways, United have conceded 58 Premier League goals this season, their highest in a single campaign in the competition. Manager Erik ten Hag shifted focus from defensive struggles to praising the attacking players. "Fantastic. Great goals. But it was a team effort how we made the goals," he told BBC Sport.

Ten Hag highlighted Newcastle's physicality and United's balanced approach in response. "Newcastle have a lot of physical power, and you have to match that, but you also have to play football," he said. "We had found the really good balance in this."

The manager also underscored the significance of winning their last home game of the season at Old Trafford. "It's always nice to win any game. It's important to win the last game at Old Trafford this season," Ten Hag remarked. "The fans deserve this because they've had difficult times and always stayed with us."

United's victory was seen as a way to repay their loyal supporters. "We are here together. We wanted to pay the fans back," Ten Hag concluded.
