'Pride Of Nation' England Earns Royal Nod Despite Euro 2024 Loss

King Charles reassured England that they remain a source of national pride despite their Euro 2024 disappointment. The Three Lions made history by losing two consecutive European Championship finals, with Mikel Oyarzabal's late goal in Berlin sealing their fate. Cole Palmer had equalised after Nico Williams' first-half goal, but Spain triumphed once again, echoing Italy's victory over England at Euro 2020.

Spain clinched their fourth European Championship title, the most by any nation, with a flawless record of seven wins in Germany. Luis de la Fuente's team earned praise from Felipe VI, the king of Spain, who attended the final at the Olympiastadion. "EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!! You have been the best team, you have made us enjoy every game and all of Spain is proud of you. Congratulations," posted Spain's royal family on X.

England Lauded by King After Euro Loss

King Charles acknowledged England's achievement in reaching another final, though it may offer little comfort as their 58-year wait for a major trophy continues. "Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high," he said in a statement shared on social media.

The King expressed his sympathy for the team's despair while congratulating Spain. "All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain," he added.

Charles III emphasised that reaching the European Championship final is a significant accomplishment. "Please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to roar for the Three Lions today and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead."

Spain's dominance at Euro 2024 saw them become the first European nation to win seven matches at a major international tournament (Euros/World Cup). They joined Brazil, who achieved this feat at the 2002 World Cup.

The Royal Family shared King Charles' letter to Gareth Southgate and the England team on social media following their loss against Spain. "His Majesty The King has written to Gareth Southgate and the @England team following their loss against Spain at the @EURO2024 final this evening," read the post.

The Spanish royal family celebrated their team's success with an enthusiastic message on X: "CAMPEONES DE EUROPA!!! Habis sido el mejor equipo, nos habis hecho disfrutar cada partido y toda Espaa est orgullosa de vosotros. Enhorabuena @SEFutbol Este resultado hace justicia a lo que hemos visto en el campo durante toda la #EURO2024 A celebrarlo!"

Despite England's heartbreak, King Charles' words aimed to uplift both players and fans by recognising their efforts and encouraging them to look forward to future successes.
