Kane Optimistic About England's Euro 2024 Journey Despite Setbacks
Harry Kane believes England's recent draw with Denmark will be forgotten if the team succeeds at Euro 2024. Despite a lacklustre performance in Thursday's 1-1 draw, Gareth Southgate's squad remains in control of Group C. England will face Slovenia on Tuesday, while Denmark meets Serbia. Southgate's men hold a two-point advantage and are in pole position.
There has been increased scrutiny following the underwhelming display, with Kane facing criticism for his role. The England captain insists that past experiences can be advantageous. "It would be silly just to forget all those past experiences and past tournaments because they can be really helpful and really useful," Kane said at Sunday’s pre-match press conference.

Kane emphasised the importance of sharing experiences with newer players. "Major tournaments are tough, like I touched on, there’s always going to be ups and downs. It’s never just a straight line to the top, or not in our experience," he added. He stressed that the ultimate goal is to progress to the knockout stage and perform well there.
Southgate's future has also been a topic of discussion, with his contract ending in December. Manchester United reportedly showed interest before sticking with Erik ten Hag. Critics have questioned Southgate's tactics, particularly regarding players like Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham.
Kane expressed strong support for Southgate, urging critics to consider the manager's achievements. "I can’t speak highly enough of Gareth and what he’s done for the team, for this nation in terms of where we were and where we are now as a national team is completely different," Kane stated.
He praised Southgate's attention to detail and his ability to make players feel comfortable both on and off the pitch. "I think being England manager is a really difficult job. That’s the bottom line. He knows that and we all know that," Kane said.
Kane acknowledged that there will always be critics but highlighted Southgate's successful record. "He’s been extremely successful with us. Like all of us, I know he wants to, and we want to take that next step and win it," he added.
The focus now shifts to Tuesday's final group game against Slovenia, where England aims to secure their position in the knockout stage of Euro 2024.
