Emma Hayes Enjoys Thrilling Final WSL Title Race With Chelsea

Emma Hayes is set to relish the excitement of a title race going down to the wire in her final days as Chelsea manager. Despite their recent defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, Chelsea's prospects of securing a trophy in Hayes' last season seemed bleak. However, Manchester City's loss to Arsenal and Chelsea's 8-0 victory over Bristol City have revitalised their chances.

With goal difference now favouring Chelsea, a win against Tottenham on Wednesday would place Hayes' team at the top of the Women's Super League (WSL) standings heading into the final day. Hayes is keen to enjoy these moments as she approaches the end of her 12-year tenure. "I'm going to enjoy being in this position," Hayes said. "You don't often get into a position where you are competing for a title going into the last two games of a season."

Hayes acknowledged the difficulty of consistently winning titles, expressing satisfaction with Chelsea's current standing. "For those of us who have won titles, we know how hard it is. I'm happy to be in the position we're in. I know we have two tough games but I'm looking forward to them," she added.

She emphasised the challenge of maintaining success over multiple seasons. "You can't win everything all of the time. But to be in a position to compete for our fifth title in five years, I'd like to see another team do that over the next five years," Hayes remarked. "Nobody really understands how hard that is to keep winning."

Hayes wants her team to enjoy their remaining matches. "To be in a position to compete for that, that's all I wanted the team to be in. I just want them to enjoy the next two games," she concluded.

Tottenham have struggled against Chelsea in the WSL, losing all eight encounters with an aggregate score of 20-5. The Blues are the only team Spurs have never taken a point from in this competition. Meanwhile, Chelsea have lost three WSL games this season, matching their record from 2016.

After facing Tottenham, Chelsea will conclude their season with a match against FA Cup winners Manchester United. Concurrently, Manchester City will play Aston Villa in their final game.

The upcoming matches will be crucial for Chelsea as they aim to secure another WSL title under Hayes' leadership. The team's performance in these final games will determine whether they can add another trophy to their collection before Hayes departs.
