Manchester City's Ellie Roebuck Shares Her Journey Of Stroke Recovery
Manchester City and England's esteemed goalkeeper, Ellie Roebuck, has recently shared an update on her health, revealing her recovery from a stroke. The 24-year-old athlete disclosed that she had been experiencing health issues for some time, which led to the diagnosis of a left occipital infarct. This type of stroke is known to potentially cause double vision, headaches, and loss of balance. Despite these challenges, Roebuck confirmed that she has not suffered any lasting damage to her brain function or vision.
Roebuck's absence from Manchester City's lineup in the Women's Super League this season has been noticeable, with 19-year-old Khiara Keating stepping in as the preferred choice for manager Gareth Taylor. Additionally, Roebuck's health issues have led to her withdrawal from the England squad. On March 30, 2024, she took to social media to share her health ordeal and the steps towards her recovery. "I feel now is the right time to give a little update on something I've been dealing with recently – ready to give it all to get back to the thing I love most," Roebuck tweeted.

Following her diagnosis, Roebuck has received extensive medical support from Manchester City's team. Her recovery journey has included numerous follow-up tests and specialist appointments. Expressing gratitude towards the club's medical team, Roebuck stated she is on the path to recovery and is eager to return to football. "It's great to be back with the girls, working on my rehab and more importantly feeling back to being normal Ellie," she shared.
The goalkeeper also acknowledged the emotional toll this period has taken on her but remains optimistic about returning to the pitch. She highlighted the importance of resilience in facing life's unexpected challenges and expressed her determination to overcome this hurdle. "Life can throw unexpected challenges at you, and if this year has taught me anything, it's that I'm strong and will give it all I've got for the thing I love most," Roebuck reflected.
In her message, Roebuck thanked everyone for their well-wishes and requested privacy as she focuses on completing her recovery. The support of her family has been a crucial element in her journey towards regaining full health. As Roebuck continues her rehabilitation with Manchester City and looks forward to rejoining both her club and national team, the football community stands in solidarity with her during this challenging time.
