Edinson Cavani Ends International Career Ahead Of Copa America
Edinson Cavani has officially retired from international football, marking the end of an illustrious career with the Uruguay national team. The 37-year-old forward, who is Uruguay's second-most capped player with 136 appearances, will not participate in the upcoming Copa America. Cavani is also the nation's second-highest scorer, netting 58 goals, only behind Luis Suarez.
Cavani made his debut for Uruguay in a friendly match against Colombia in February 2008. He was a key player in the squad that clinched the Copa America title in 2011. Despite his significant contributions over the years, Cavani has not featured for the national team since their exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar during the group stages.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Cavani expressed his gratitude and emotions regarding his retirement. "My beloved Celeste, I just want to thank you for every lesson you gave me under your process," he wrote. "I won’t take long. Today my words are few but profound. Thanks to every single person who was a part of this road over the years."
He continued, "I was and always will be blessed to have worn this jersey representing what I love most in this world, my country. They were without doubt so many wonderful years. I have a thousand things to say, tell and remember, but I want to dedicate today to this new stage of my career and give everything I've got to where I'm supposed to be now."
Uruguay will kick off their Copa America campaign against Panama on June 23. The team will now move forward without one of its most iconic players as they aim for success in the tournament.
Cavani's departure marks a significant moment for Uruguayan football, closing a chapter that saw numerous achievements and memorable moments. His legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations of players representing Uruguay on the international stage.
