Douglas Luiz Seals €50m Transfer To Juventus From Aston Villa
Juventus have finalised the acquisition of Brazilian international Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa. Luiz played a crucial role in Unai Emery's midfield last season, helping Villa secure a spot in the Champions League. However, the club needed to make sales to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).
To meet these financial requirements, Villa sold young talents Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman to Everton and Chelsea respectively. Additionally, winger Lewis Dobbin joined from Everton, and full-back Ian Maatsen arrived from Chelsea. Despite these moves, Luiz was always expected to be the significant sale needed to balance the books.
The transfer of Luiz, valued at £50 million (€42 million), has now been completed. The 26-year-old midfielder is currently on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America and has signed a five-year contract with Juventus.
Over the past two Premier League seasons, Luiz has been a standout performer for Aston Villa. He created the most chances (98), set up the most shots from set-pieces (42), made the most tackles (130), and collected the most interceptions (63) among his teammates.
In return for Luiz, Villa are expected to acquire Juventus youngsters Samuel Iling-Junior and midfielder Enzo Barrenechea in a separate deal worth up to £18.6 million (€22 million). The club has also been linked with Luton Town's Ross Barkley, who previously played for Villa during the 2020-21 season.
