Curtis Jones Thrives At Liverpool Under Manager Arne Slot's Guidance

Curtis Jones has expressed his contentment since Arne Slot's arrival at Liverpool. Jones, who was first brought into the first team by Jurgen Klopp in September 2019, has made 133 appearances for his childhood club. Despite this, he struggled to secure a regular spot in Klopp's starting line-up.

Last season, the 23-year-old midfielder played in 36 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals. This was his highest number of appearances in a single season. Liverpool won the EFL Cup and finished third in the Premier League during this period.

Jones Flourishes Under Slot

Jones believes that Slot's patient approach will benefit him more than Klopp's style. "Slot's amazing. It's probably the happiest I've been," Jones mentioned during their pre-season camp. He added that Slot's style of play suits him better and involves a clear plan.

"Arne is fully involved in the training, he coaches us a lot, he's big on the finer details," Jones said. He acknowledged that adapting to Slot's methods would take time due to the significant changes involved.

Jones reflected on his early days with the team, noting that he had to adapt and change his playing style. "I came around the team as a young lad. I always had a way of playing, but I had to adapt and change," he said.

He further explained how Slot’s approach allows him to play more naturally. "It wasn't anything I couldn't do. But this now is more me. I can get on the ball more. I can 'do me' more," Jones stated.

Midfield Dynamics

Jones elaborated on how midfielders are now central to Liverpool’s strategy under Slot. "The centre-mids were always more like runners, more disciplined," he said. "Now the midfielders are going to be the heart of the team."

The new approach focuses on maintaining possession and breaking down teams methodically rather than rushing attacks. "We have to be more calm and play more as a team," Jones explained.

In contrast to previous tactics that were direct and fast-paced, Slot wants Liverpool to dominate possession and dismantle opponents patiently. "Now Arne wants us to have all the ball and completely kill teams," Jones added.

Liverpool's Pre-Season Tour

Liverpool is currently in the United States for their three-game pre-season tour, which begins with a match against Real Betis on Friday.

This new chapter under Arne Slot seems promising for Curtis Jones as he looks forward to securing a regular starting position and contributing significantly to Liverpool’s success.
