Craig Bellamy Takes Helm As Wales Manager With Four-Year Contract
Craig Bellamy has been appointed as the new manager for Wales, succeeding Rob Page who left last month. This marks Bellamy's debut in a senior managerial position, with the former Wales captain committing to a four-year contract.As a player, Bellamy earned 78 caps for the national team from 1998 to 2014, netting 19 goals. "It’s an incredible honour for me to be given the opportunity to lead my country, and it’s the proudest moment of my career," Bellamy told the FAW website. He expressed that becoming the Cymru head coach was his ultimate dream and he feels prepared for this challenge.Bellamy had previously been named Burnley's acting head coach after Vincent Kompany moved to Bayern Munich in May. However, he declined to continue in that role following Scott Parker's appointment as Burnley's permanent coach.Bellamy's first match as Wales manager will be a home game against Turkiye in the Nations League on September 6. The Welsh Football Association welcomed him with a tweet: "Croeso Bellamy" along with hashtags #CroesoBellamy and #TogetherStronger.
