Colombia Overcomes Uruguay 1-0 To Reach Copa America Final Against Argentina
Ten-man Colombia secured a 1-0 victory over Uruguay, advancing to the Copa America final. Jefferson Lerma's first-half goal proved decisive, but Colombia had to defend resolutely after Daniel Munoz was sent off just before half-time. Despite Uruguay's late efforts, Colombia maintained their unbeaten run in North Carolina.
Uruguay entered the match with a strong defensive record, having conceded only once in the tournament. However, their offensive struggles were evident as they failed to capitalise on their chances. Darwin Nunez missed several opportunities in the first half, and Uruguay managed only two tame shots on target by full-time.

James Rodriguez has been pivotal for Colombia this tournament. His assist for Lerma's goal marked his sixth of the competition, setting a new record for most assists in a single Copa America edition since 2011. This surpassed Lionel Messi's five assists from 2021. James was substituted after receiving a yellow card to ensure his availability for the final.
Lerma's header highlighted Colombia's strength in set-pieces, contributing to their tally of eight goals from such situations. Despite being down to ten men, they showcased resilience and tactical discipline to secure the win and extend their unbeaten streak to 28 games.
Uruguay struggled to convert their chances into goals throughout the knockout stages. Nunez had four first-half shots but failed to hit the target. The team couldn't exploit their numerical advantage in the second half, managing only two shots on target by the end of the match.
Colombia started brightly with Munoz narrowly missing an early header. However, Nunez missed three golden opportunities in quick succession, firing wide twice and lifting another shot over the crossbar. This inability to score ultimately cost Uruguay dearly.
Munoz received his first booking for a tackle on Maximiliano Araujo and was later sent off for elbowing Manuel Ugarte. This left Colombia with ten men for the entire second half, but they managed to hold firm against Uruguay's attacks.
Late Drama
Luis Suarez came close to equalising for Uruguay when he struck the post with a powerful shot from outside the box. Federico Valverde also had a chance but drilled his low strike wide of Vargas' goal. In contrast, Kevin Castano had two opportunities to seal Colombia's victory late on; he missed one and saw Rochet save his other effort onto the crossbar.
The final whistle confirmed Colombia's place in Sunday's final against defending champions Argentina. Chasing their second-ever Copa America title, Los Cafeteros will need another strong performance to overcome Argentina and lift the trophy.
