Chiellini Backs Spalletti To Deliver Memorable Moments For Italy At Euro 2024
Giorgio Chiellini has expressed confidence in head coach Luciano Spalletti's ability to lead Italy to success at Euro 2024. The Azzurri, who won the Euro 2020 title by defeating England on penalties at Wembley, will head to Germany as the reigning champions. Chiellini, who captained Italy to their second European crown, believes the team will be outsiders in the tournament.
Chiellini shared his thoughts with Corriere dello Sport, stating, "I'm very happy with Spalletti and for Spalletti. I have the utmost respect for him, and I'm convinced that if there is someone who can make us relive the magical Italian nights, it's him." He added that the pressure will be on other teams like France, England, Portugal, Germany, and Spain.

Italy will face Spain, Croatia, and Albania in Group B. Chiellini believes that being considered outsiders might benefit Italy if they progress to the latter stages of the competition. "This group only has to gain from this European Championship. Italy are outsiders. Facing us in knockout matches is never easy," he remarked.

Chiellini also commented on former Juventus boss Antonio Conte, who is linked with a return to management at Napoli. "I can see him doing well," said Chiellini. "I believe he rested and needed it after some personal issues that affected him. Napoli is a club that gives you a lot, that energises you a lot."
Inter Milan retained the Scudetto in the 2023-24 season, finishing 19 points clear of second-place Milan. Chiellini believes Inter will be the team to beat next term. "No way," he replied when asked if he was surprised by Inter's dominance. "I already said it last July, then also in December. They told me I was being superstitious, but for me, the difference was obvious."
Chiellini noted that Inter's new ownership seems to have everything under control. "If they maintain the structure, with controlled management and targeted investments, Inter are too far ahead of the others. If all the players remain, as it seems, Inzaghi's team will start as favourites next year, too," he concluded.
