Chelsea's European Qualification: Pochettino Hails 'First Step' Towards Greater Achievements

Mauricio Pochettino believes Chelsea's qualification for European football marks the first step in restoring the club to its former glories. A 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge in the final game of the season secured a sixth-place finish, ensuring Chelsea will participate in European competitions next season. The Blues are guaranteed at least a spot in the Europa Conference League. However, if Manchester City triumphs over Manchester United in the FA Cup final next Saturday, Chelsea will instead compete in the Europa League.

Pochettino views this achievement as just the beginning of Chelsea's journey back to the upper echelons of European football. "For the history of Chelsea, it is hard to celebrate," Pochettino told Sky Sports. "But it is the first step to achieve bigger things after. We are really close. Season by season it is about improving. We know how we need to compete next season. We have a young squad but with more experience in the Premier League now."

Chelsea's Path to Glory Begins

In their last 15 Premier League games of the season, Chelsea lost just once and won their final five matches, making a late surge into the European places. Pochettino expressed pride in his team's performance towards the end of the campaign. "We played against a team [Bournemouth] in a very good run and who also had the whole week to prepare," he said. "I think the way we played and created chances, we had the chances to score more goals. I am so happy with the run in the last part of the season. Credit to the players, and that is how we want to compete."

Despite Chelsea's strong finish, there has been much speculation regarding Pochettino's future at Stamford Bridge. When questioned about his position, Pochettino responded, "That is a question for the owners and the sporting director."

Chelsea's late-season form was pivotal in securing their European spot. The team demonstrated resilience and tactical acumen under Pochettino's guidance, particularly in their final five matches, which they won consecutively.

Looking ahead, Pochettino emphasised the importance of continuous improvement and gaining more experience within their young squad. The upcoming season will be crucial as Chelsea aims to build on this foundation and compete more effectively on both domestic and European fronts.

Managerial Speculation

The speculation surrounding Pochettino's future adds an element of uncertainty as Chelsea prepares for next season. His comments suggest that decisions regarding his tenure will be made by higher management, leaving fans and analysts alike awaiting further developments.

As Chelsea gears up for another competitive season, their recent achievements provide a solid platform for future success under Pochettino's leadership.
