Arsenal Overcomes Bournemouth With Penalties In Los Angeles Pre-Season Friendly

Arsenal secured a victory over Bournemouth through penalties after a 1-1 draw in their pre-season tour opener in the United States. Fabio Vieira's volley, from Reiss Nelson's cross, gave Mikel Arteta's side an early lead at Dignity Health Sports Park. However, Antoine Semenyo's deflected shot equalised for Bournemouth 17 minutes before the end.

The match concluded with a penalty shoot-out as agreed by both teams if the game ended in a draw. Ryan Christie's miss was crucial, while Martin Odegaard, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jorginho, Gabriel Jesus, and Jakub Kiwior all scored their penalties for Arsenal. This ensured Arsenal maintained a perfect record from the spot.

Arsenal Wins in LA Friendly Shootout

Karl Hein made a significant save against Dominic Solanke in a one-on-one situation to keep Arsenal ahead initially. Despite this, Bournemouth managed to level the score when Semenyo's shot deflected off Omar Rekik, wrong-footing Hein.

Bournemouth had several chances but failed to capitalise on them. They finished with 1.33 expected goals (xG) compared to Arsenal's 0.51 xG. Solanke, who netted 19 Premier League goals last season, couldn't find the target from his four shots totalling 0.54 xG.

Arsenal's next pre-season fixture is against Manchester United at the SoFi Stadium on Saturday. The young Arsenal XI showed promise despite some missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

The game provided valuable minutes for both teams' players as they prepare for the upcoming season. The shoot-out win also offered a confidence boost for Arsenal as they continue their pre-season preparations.
