Arne Slot To Prioritise Current Liverpool Team Amidst Transfer Window Concerns

Arne Slot is eager to work with Liverpool's existing squad before considering new signings for his first season at Anfield. Liverpool and Fulham are the only Premier League teams yet to make any transfers, though Fulham is expected to sign Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe soon. Some Liverpool fans are concerned about the lack of transfer activity as they aim to improve on last season's third-place finish and close the gap with Manchester City and Arsenal.

Slot addressed the lack of new signings and his discussions with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes. He stated, "The first aim is to work with these players. There is an important line at the club that young players come through. Our standards are really high when it comes to bringing in new players. Of course, Richard and I are trying to improve the squad where possible."

Slot Focuses on Liverpool Squad

Liverpool continues their pre-season preparations in the United States, with Mohamed Salah included in Slot's 28-man squad for three fixtures. The Reds will face Real Betis in Pittsburgh on Saturday, followed by matches against Manchester United and Arsenal. However, left-back Andy Robertson will not participate in these games.

Scotland international Andy Robertson returned to Kirkby last week but did not play in the pre-season defeat against Preston North End. The 30-year-old is likely to miss all three USA tour games due to an injury sustained during Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign. Slot commented, "He took a small injury into the Euros and afterwards he had to recover from that after playing those games. But we will expect him back after our tour—he joined us over here."

Slot also provided an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold's future, who has one year left on his contract and has attracted interest from Real Madrid. When asked about Alexander-Arnold's situation, Slot responded similarly to former manager Jurgen Klopp: "My answer would probably be a bit boring and I think it's the same answer you've heard for the last five, six or seven years," said Slot. "Contract situations are not discussed at this place. Keep trying, I would say!"

Despite concerns from fans about transfer inactivity, Slot remains focused on assessing and working with the current squad before making any decisions on new signings.

Robertson’s recovery timeline suggests he might be fit after Liverpool’s USA tour concludes. This cautious approach aims to ensure he returns fully fit for upcoming challenges.

The Reds' pre-season tour in the USA includes key fixtures that will help Slot evaluate his squad’s readiness for the upcoming Premier League season.

Slot’s emphasis on integrating young talent aligns with Liverpool’s tradition of promoting youth players while maintaining high standards for new signings.

This strategy reflects a balanced approach between nurturing existing talent and cautiously enhancing the squad where necessary.

Liverpool fans eagerly await further developments as Slot continues his preparations for a competitive season ahead.
