Soccer Star Alex Morgan Left Out Of Team USA's Paris Olympics Lineup

Alex Morgan has been excluded from the United States squad for the Paris Olympics in July. Morgan, who has netted 123 goals in 224 matches for her country, has participated in every Olympic Games since Beijing 2008 and clinched gold at London 2012. The two-time World Cup champion has not scored in her last eight games for San Diego Wave after recovering from an ankle injury.

Former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes will lead her first tournament as the USA coach. She has chosen Trinity Rodman, Jaedyn Shaw, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson as her primary forward options. "It was a tough decision, especially considering Alex's history and record with this team, but I felt I wanted to go in another direction and selected other players," Hayes stated.

Morgan Excluded from Olympics Squad

The women's football competition in Paris starts on 25 July, with the final match scheduled for August 10. The United States, who secured bronze at Tokyo 2020, are placed in Group B and will compete against Zambia, Germany, and Australia.

Morgan expressed her disappointment on social media: "Today, I'm disappointed about not having the opportunity to represent my country on the Olympic stage. This will always be a tournament that is close to my heart and I take immense pride any time I put on the crest. In less than a month I look forward to supporting this team and cheering them on alongside the rest of our country."

Morgan's absence marks a significant change for Team USA as she has been a consistent presence since 2008. Her experience and goal-scoring prowess have been vital assets over the years. Despite her recent form dip due to injury recovery, her exclusion remains notable.

The decision by Hayes reflects a shift towards younger talent in preparation for future tournaments. The inclusion of players like Rodman and Shaw indicates a focus on building a dynamic and fresh attacking lineup.

As Team USA prepares for their group stage matches against Zambia, Germany, and Australia, fans will be keenly watching how the new forward line performs under Hayes' leadership.

With Morgan supporting from the sidelines, there is hope that her encouragement will inspire the team to perform well in Paris. The upcoming matches will test both the new players' abilities and Hayes' strategies as they aim for Olympic glory once again.
