Zimbabwe Achieves 80-Run Victory Over Pakistan In Rain-Affected First ODI Match

Zimbabwe triumphed over Pakistan by 80 runs using the DLS method in the rain-affected first ODI. Sikandar Raza was instrumental, scoring 39 runs and taking two wickets. His partnership with Richard Ngarava, who added 48 runs, helped Zimbabwe recover from 125-7 to reach 205 all out. Rain interrupted play with Pakistan at 60-6, giving Zimbabwe a 1-0 series lead.

Pakistan's bowling attack missed key players Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. Debutant Aamer Jamal and Mohammad Hasnain couldn't challenge Zimbabwe's openers effectively. Tadiwanashe Marumani and Joylord Gumbie started strongly with a 40-run opening stand before Gumbie was run out due to a mix-up.

Zimbabwe Defeats Pakistan by 80 Runs

Zimbabwe faced difficulties as Pakistan's spinners Faisal Akram and Salman Ali Agha took crucial wickets. Akram took 3-24, while Agha claimed 3-42, reducing Zimbabwe to 125-7. However, Raza and Ngarava's partnership added essential runs, frustrating Pakistan's bowlers.

Raza was caught near the boundary attempting a big shot against Akram. Ngarava was the last to fall after hitting five fours and a six, chopping Hasnain onto his stumps. Their efforts ensured Zimbabwe posted a competitive total.

Blessing Muzarabani used home conditions well, dismissing Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique early on. Kamran Ghulam and captain Mohammad Rizwan tried to stabilize the innings but struggled against Zimbabwe's spinners. Sean Williams dismissed Ghulam for 17, while Raza took two wickets in quick succession.

Raza trapped Salman Ali Agha leg before wicket and bowled Haseebullah Khan for zero on his ODI debut. Pakistan lost four wickets for just 18 runs during this phase and couldn't recover before rain halted play.

Series Outlook

The three-match ODI series will continue with two more games, followed by three T20 matches in Bulawayo. Pakistan aims to bounce back after experimenting with their squad ahead of next year's Champions Trophy.
