Zimbabwe On Brink Of Test Match Triumph Against Ireland Thanks To Ngarava's Bowling

Zimbabwe are on the brink of a Test match victory against Ireland at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast. By the end of Day 3, Ireland were struggling at 33 for five while chasing a modest target of 158 runs.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe concluded their innings at 197, thanks to veteran batter Sean Williams. The 37-year-old scored 40 off 65 balls and shared a crucial 68-run partnership with Dion Myers, who made 57 off 142 balls batting at number three.

Zimbabwe Nears Test Win vs Ireland

Zimbabwe's left-arm pacer Richard Ngarava was instrumental in dismantling Ireland's batting lineup. His impressive figures read 4/12 in four overs before rain halted play and stumps were called on Saturday, July 27. Right-hand pacer Blessing Muzarabani claimed the other wicket.

If Zimbabwe can take the remaining five wickets on Sunday (July 28), it will mark their first Test win since 2021 and only their third in the last decade. Their previous victories came in 2018 and September 2013.

Ireland had earlier taken a first-innings lead of 40 runs after opting to bowl first. They managed to score 250 runs in response to Zimbabwe's total of 210.

For Ireland, Mark Adair and Craig Young each took two wickets, while off-spinner Andy McBrine finished with figures of 4/38 in his 23 overs.

Upcoming Tour Confirmation

In another positive development for Zimbabwean cricket, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief Richard Gould confirmed to Sky Sports that the board would pay touring fees when Zimbabwe visit for a one-off Test next year. Gould emphasised that financially strong boards like those of India and Australia have a significant responsibility to maintain the competitiveness of Test cricket.
