Yashasvi Jaiswal Joins Elite Indian Company With Century In Perth Test Against Australia

Yashasvi Jaiswal made headlines on November 24 by scoring a century in the first Test against Australia in Perth. This achievement places him among Indian cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli, who have also scored centuries in Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jaiswal's century is his third this year and fourth overall, equalling him with Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri for the most hundreds by an Indian before turning 23. His performance in Perth follows a duck in the first innings, showcasing his resilience and talent on Australian soil.

The 22-year-old reached his hundred with an upper cut that sent the ball to the boundary at fine leg. Starting from an overnight score of 90* off 193 balls, he completed his century in 205 balls. This feat makes him only the third Indian to score a century in his debut Test match in Australia.

Before Jaiswal, only Sunil Gavaskar and Motganhalli Jaisimha had achieved this milestone. Additionally, Jaiswal became the first Indian opener since KL Rahul to score a century in Australia. Rahul had scored 110 runs during the Sydney Test from January 6 to 10, 2015.

Record-Breaking Partnerships

Jaiswal's partnership with KL Rahul was significant as they added 201 runs for the first wicket. This achievement marked them as the first Indian opening pair to reach a double-century stand in a Test match played in Australia.

This partnership broke the previous record held by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth, who had added 191 runs for the first wicket during a Sydney Test from January 2 to 6, 1986. Such performances highlight India's strong batting lineup.

Jaiswal's current form suggests he could surpass records set by Tendulkar and Shastri for most Test hundreds before turning 23. With four centuries already under his belt at age 22, he stands alongside Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli.
