Yashasvi Jaiswal Draws Strength From Virat Kohli's Guidance Before Border-Gavaskar Trophy Challenge
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian cricket opener, is preparing for a significant milestone in his career. He is set to participate in his first Test series in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. At 22, Jaiswal acknowledges the crucial role of his mentor, Virat Kohli, in providing guidance and inspiration to succeed at this level.
Jaiswal has shared insights into how discussions with Kohli have influenced his game approach. "When I started playing senior cricket, I did speak to Virat Paaji about how he managed himself," Jaiswal said. These conversations have been instrumental in shaping his mindset.

Kohli's advice on discipline and routine has been pivotal for Jaiswal. "Paaji has said to me that if I want to play all that cricket, then I have to be disciplined in my daily routines and follow the process," he added. The young cricketer finds Kohli's consistent performance highly motivating.
Jaiswal admires Kohli's dedication and consistency. "I have seen him doing the stuff consistently day by day. Actually, seeing him, it motivates me a lot to put in the work and do something and make a difference in my habits, which is really important for me. I feel like I will be better day by day," he said.
The upcoming five-match Test series in Australia poses a new challenge for Jaiswal, who has already excelled on home soil with 1,407 runs at an average of 56.28 in Tests. This tour represents a unique test for the promising left-handed batsman.
"It is my first trip to Australia," he shared. "I am very excited to play here. I want to play well and do well. It is different here. The ball is different; the wicket is different. But I think we know that. I think we are ready mentally."
Preparation and Mentorship
Jaiswal's preparation includes focusing on recovery, nutrition, and targeted practice sessions. He credits mentors like Kohli for instilling discipline and respect for the game in him. These influences drive his ambition to perform well on this tour.
The series will commence in Perth and proceed through Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. With Kohli's words resonating within him, Jaiswal aims to tackle Australian conditions head-on and leave a lasting impression on the series.
"I want to play fearlessly and enjoy the experience," Jaiswal concluded. "I feel blessed to have these opportunities." His determination reflects his readiness to embrace challenges and make significant contributions during the series.
