Yashasvi Jaiswal Targets Sachin Tendulkar's Historic Test Runs Record Ahead Of Adelaide Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the brink of making history as Team India prepares for the pink-ball Test against Australia in Adelaide. The 22-year-old opener, who has been in outstanding form throughout 2024, needs just 282 more runs to break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 1,562 Test runs scored in a single calendar year.

Jaiswal has accumulated 1,280 runs from 12 matches this year, averaging 58.18. His impressive performance includes three centuries and seven half-centuries, with his highest score being an outstanding 214 earlier this year. This demonstrates his prowess on the international stage.

Jaiswal Eyes Tendulkar's Test Record in Adelaide

Sachin Tendulkar set his record in 2010 over 14 Tests, scoring seven centuries and five fifties at an average of 78.10. As Jaiswal continues to perform consistently across different conditions, comparisons between him and Tendulkar have grown stronger.

In the first Test against Australia in Perth, Jaiswal shone brightly with a remarkable innings of 161 off 297 balls. He formed a formidable opening partnership with KL Rahul, adding 201 runs for the first wicket and further establishing himself as a key player.

Globally, Mohammad Yousuf from Pakistan holds the record for most Test runs in a calendar year with 1,788 runs in 2006 at an average of 99.33. Jaiswal is currently ninth among Indian batters for most Test runs in a year and could surpass legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli by year's end.

The young cricketer's rapid ascent has also seen him climb to the No. 2 position in the ICC Test batter rankings. With the Adelaide Test commencing on December 6, Jaiswal has three more matches to potentially secure his place in cricketing history.

Fans' Anticipation

Cricket enthusiasts and experts are keenly watching to see if Jaiswal can maintain his exceptional form and surpass Tendulkar's milestone during what has already been a defining year for his career.

Notably, Jaiswal achieved consecutive double-hundreds against England earlier this year, becoming only the third Indian to do so. This feat highlights his exceptional talent and determination on the field.
