Wriddhiman Saha Returns To Bengal, Eyes Ranji Trophy Over IPL Talks

India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has returned to Bengal after a two-year stint with Tripura. He had left his home state to play for the Northeast team but is now back and ready to represent Bengal in the domestic season.

On Monday evening, Saha announced his return at a press conference held at Eden Gardens. After the event, he spoke with MyKhel about his IPL aspirations and his primary focus following his comeback.

Saha Eyes Ranji Over IPL

Saha has been a regular in the IPL since its inception but clarified that his current focus is not on the IPL. He mentioned having discussions with Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra for various reasons but denied any talks regarding retention.

"I talk with everyone. But the team selection for IPL is in December, hence I haven't thought about it. My responsibility is to play in the ground, team selection is not in my hands," Wriddhiman said to MyKhel.

Bengal has produced several talented cricketers, especially pacers like Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar who have represented India. However, no frontline batter from Bengal has played for India since Manoj Tiwary and Wriddhiman himself. When asked about this, Saha highlighted Abhimanyu Easwaran's call-ups and acknowledged the challenges of making it into the Indian team.

"Being in the Indian team itself is a big thing. Yes, the bowlers are getting chances because some bowlers get rested, but the batters like Abhimanyu Easwaran, all-rounder such as Shahbaz Ahmed are getting into the team because of their performances, which is a positive for Bengal cricket," he added.

Retirement Plans

During the press conference, Saha expressed his passion for Bengal cricket and his motivation to win a Ranji Trophy for his home state. When asked about retirement plans, he confirmed that he would retire from all formats simultaneously when he decides to hang up his boots.

"My sole focus is to play well for Bengal and perform for my state. I am thinking about Ranji Trophy first, no such emphasis on IPL at the moment," he added.

Saha's return to Bengal marks an important chapter in his career as he aims to contribute significantly to his home state's cricketing success while keeping future opportunities open.
