WPL 2025 Retention: Full List Of Released Players From DC, GT, MI, RCB And UP Warriorz
As the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) season nears, teams are busy announcing which players they will keep and release. This sets the stage for the next auction. All five franchises have decided to retain at least 12 players from their 2024 squads, keeping their core teams largely intact.
The upcoming auction, expected in early December, will be competitive with 23 players released. Teams now have a larger budget of INR 15 crore, up from INR 13.5 crore, providing more financial room for strategic acquisitions.

Among the notable releases are Sneh Rana, Heather Knight, and Lea Tahuhu. These changes reflect each team's strategy to refine their lineups. The Gujarat Giants, holding the largest remaining budget of INR 4.4 crore, let go of Rana, who led them initially after Beth Mooney's injury. They also released Bryce and Tahuhu as they aim for significant changes following two seasons at the bottom.
The UP Warriorz are looking to bounce back after a less successful 2024 season despite reaching the playoffs in 2023. With a purse of INR 3.9 crore, they released players like Lauren Bell and Parshavi Chopra to strengthen their core team.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the reigning champions, have kept their leadership intact while releasing Heather Knight due to her international commitments in 2024 and Nadine de Klerk from South Africa. With INR 3.25 crore available, they are well-positioned to enhance their squad.
The Delhi Capitals have consistently reached the finals but aim to break their runner-up streak by releasing Poonam Yadav and Laura Harris. This opens opportunities for fresh talent that could give them an edge.
Mumbai Indians have retained most of their international stars but released a few players including Issy Wong. Their remaining budget of INR 2.65 crore will help them make tactical improvements to stay competitive.
