WPL 2025 Retention Reveals Purses And Remaining Slots For All Franchises
The 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL) auction is anticipated in early December, with all five franchises having disclosed their lists of retained and released players. This sets the stage for an exciting bidding process.
Each franchise has a salary cap of INR 15 crore. The remaining amounts in their purses vary, reflecting strategic decisions as they aim to fill slots and strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.

Gujarat Giants (GT), who have faced challenges in previous WPL editions, enter this auction with the largest purse of INR 4.4 crore. They made bold decisions by releasing experienced players like Sneh Rana.
Rana captained the team in 2023 after Beth Mooney's injury, alongside 2024 T20 World Cup winner Lea Tahuhu. With four open slots, including two for overseas players, Gujarat seems poised for a significant overhaul to improve their standings.
The UP Warriorz (UPW) have INR 3.9 crore left in their purse and three slots available, one reserved for an overseas player. After reaching the playoffs in 2023 but underperforming in 2024, they released Lauren Bell, Parshavi Chopra, and Laxmi Yadav to bring in new talent.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Selective Strategy
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have retained a strong core but parted ways with notable players like Heather Knight and Nadine de Klerk. Knight missed the 2024 season due to international duty.
Klerk served as Knight's replacement. With INR 3.25 crore and four domestic slots open, RCB is expected to make selective additions to maintain their championship-winning edge.
Mumbai Indians Refine Star-Studded Roster
The Mumbai Indians (MI), title winners in 2023, released Issy Wong, who played a crucial role in their inaugural season success. With INR 2.65 crore and four open slots, including one overseas, Mumbai can refine their already star-studded roster led by Harmanpreet Kaur.
Delhi Capitals Seek First Title
Delhi Capitals (DC), twice runners-up, released Indian leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and Australian power-hitter Laura Harris. With INR 2.5 crore remaining, DC has the smallest purse but four open slots, including one overseas, allowing them to bring fresh faces to push for their first WPL title.
This WPL season might start earlier than usual, potentially in February. This year's auction could be the last before a possible mega auction in 2026, marking a new phase in the league's evolution.
