IPL 2024: Impact Of West Indies World Cup Players From Pooran To Russell

As many as nine players from the West Indies T20 World Cup 2024 squad participated in the IPL 2024, playing crucial roles for their respective teams. Brandon King, Roston Chase, Johnson Charles, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, and Obed McCoy were the only six players not associated with any of the ten franchises in the IPL 2024.

Andre Russell, Rovman Powell, and Nicholas Pooran remained in India for the IPL 2024 playoffs despite a home T20I series against South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Here is an overview of how these T20 World Cup-bound West Indies players performed in the IPL 2024.

West Indies Stars Shine in IPL 2024

Nicholas Pooran: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter was the second-highest run-scorer for his team. He accumulated 499 runs in 14 matches at an average of 62.37 and a strike rate of 178.21. Pooran hit three fifties during the season.

Andre Russell: Andre Russell returned to bowling in IPL 2024 and ended as the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker. The right-arm pacer took 19 wickets and scored 222 runs at a strike rate of 185, aiding Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in winning the title.

Shai Hope: The West Indies wicketkeeper-batter was part of Delhi Capitals (DC). He managed to score only 183 runs in nine matches at an average of 22.87 and a strike rate of 150.

Shimron Hetmyer: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter had a less impressive season, scoring 113 runs in 12 matches at an average of 22.60 and a strike rate of 163.76. In Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he scored just 4 off 10 balls as Rajasthan lost by 36 runs.

Rovman Powell: The West Indies captain for the T20 World Cup 2024 was also part of RR. He scored 103 runs in 10 matches at an average of 17.16 and a strike rate of 151.47.

Romario Shepherd: Shepherd was part of the Mumbai Indians squad but had limited opportunities. He scored 57 runs in five innings (three times not out) at an average of 28.50 and a strike rate of 271.42.

Alzarri Joseph: The pacer played just three matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024. He was expensive and managed to pick just one wicket.

Shamar Joseph: The young pacer made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) but played only one game, conceding 47 runs in four overs.

Sherfane Rutherford: The batting all-rounder was part of KKR but did not get any game time during the season.
