Washington Sundar Triumphs With Man Of The Series Title In Zimbabwe T20Is
Washington Sundar has faced numerous injuries in recent years. During India's tour of England in 2021, he sustained a finger injury, which kept him out of the IPL's second half and the T20 World Cup that year.
In early 2022, Sundar suffered a hamstring injury, ruling him out of the T20I series against West Indies and Sri Lanka. Later that year, while playing for Lancashire in the Royal London One-Day Cup, he injured his hand. This injury caused him to miss several matches during tours of the Caribbean and Zimbabwe.

In 2023, a shoulder injury further hampered his participation in both domestic and international cricket. This setback affected his performance and progress significantly. Additionally, his IPL 2024 campaign was disappointing as he played only two games for Sunrisers Hyderabad, both as an Impact Substitute.
Washington Sundar was notably excluded from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, which was a significant disappointment for him. Meanwhile, Team India achieved a historic victory under Rohit Sharma's leadership by defeating South Africa by seven wickets in Barbados to secure their second title. Following this triumph, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is.
Subsequently, India embarked on a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe with Shubman Gill leading the young team. Despite losing the first match, they bounced back to win the remaining four games and clinched the series 4-1.
Sundar's Performance in Zimbabwe
During this series in Zimbabwe, Washington Sundar made a significant impact with his bowling. He took crucial wickets at key moments and maintained tight control over the batters. His efforts earned him the Man of the Series award as he finished as the joint leading wicket-taker with eight wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.16.
With Jadeja retired from T20Is and Axar Patel rested for the Zimbabwe series, Sundar seized this opportunity to make a strong case for his inclusion in Team India's T20I XI. His performance on this overseas tour demonstrated his potential to cement his spot in the team.
Sundar's journey has been marked by resilience despite numerous setbacks due to injuries. His recent performances indicate that he is ready to contribute significantly to Team India's future successes.
