Waqar Younis To Spearhead Pakistan Cricket As New Chief Officer
Waqar Younis might be considered for the role of Chief Cricket Officer by Pakistan, inspired by the England Cricket Board's structure. The fast-bowling legend has recently joined the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as chairman of cricketing affairs on a temporary basis.
As per reports, Waqar Younis has taken up a paid position with the PCB, not just an advisory role. "Presently, he has been given the title of advisor to the chairman on cricket affairs. But, a new position similar to the one that Rob Key has in the English cricket board is being created for him and would be approved by the Board of Governors," a source said to PTI.

Once Waqar is officially appointed to this new role, he will also join the national selection committee and handle issues related to central contracts. Initially joining as an advisor, Waqar wanted time to adjust and understand his responsibilities within the board.
He has been working closely with various departments to get familiar with all cricket-related matters. This includes international and domestic schedules, preparations, and strategies for upcoming games and tests.
The former fast bowler has previously served as both bowling coach and head coach for Pakistan multiple times. He agreed to join PCB after moving from Australia to Lahore with his family last year.
Challenges Faced by Pakistan Cricket Team
The Pakistan cricket team has faced criticism for their recent performances. Questions have been raised about both PCB's management and player performances. Babar Azam led the team in T20 World Cup 2024 but faced a shocking group-stage exit after losses to USA and India.
Waqar Younis' involvement aims to bring stability and improvement in these areas. His extensive experience could be crucial in addressing these challenges effectively.
