Vizag Warriors Clinch APL 2024 Title: Season Highlights And Top Awards

Vizag Warriors triumphed over Uttarandhra Lions by 87 runs in the APL 2024 final on Saturday, July 13. This victory crowned them champions of the Andhra Premier League (APL), a T20 tournament organised by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).

After being put into bat, Ashwin Hebbar's unbeaten 91 off 56 balls propelled Vizag Warriors to a total of 189/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Hebbar's innings included four sixes and eight fours, making him the top run-scorer of the season.

Hebbar shared an 89-run partnership with his opening partner B Munish Varma, who scored 37 off 27 balls. Later, he added another 36 runs with skipper KS Bharat, who contributed 21 off 14 balls.

In response, Uttarandhra Lions were bowled out for just 102 runs at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Gangadhar led the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 17.

J Saketh Ram and K Sudharsan also played crucial roles with the ball, taking two wickets each. Ram had figures of 2 for 23 while Sudharsan took 2 for 21. B Yeshwant and P Manohar chipped in with one wicket each.

APL 2024 Stats & Records

Defending a target of 190, Ram and Sudharsan struck early blows within the first four overs. They dismissed S Tarun (13), Mopada Ravikiran (0), and stand-in skipper P Tapaswi (7). SV Rahul (9) and Bendalam Satvik (26) then steadied the innings with a partnership of 32 runs.

Gangadhar and Yeshwant quickly removed key batsmen, while KS Bharat executed a run-out inspired by MS Dhoni to dismiss Pinninti Tejaswi. Gangadhar also took out Dheeraj Kumar (11) with assistance from Hebbar, who caught his second catch of the night.

The tail was cleaned up by Manohar and Sudharsan, sealing an emphatic win for Vizag Warriors. For Lions, Yadla Vasu was the standout bowler with figures of 2 for 26 in four overs.
